Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola is confident his team can overcome the pain of their home defeat to Tottenham Hotspur in the English Premier League.
City suffered their first defeat of the season, 2-0, in the second round of the Premier League. The Sky Blues quickly began to falter after their opening 4-0 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Guardiola said after the match that it was still early days and he was not concerned about his team. He added in statements to his club's official website: "Our match against Tottenham this season involved a lot of backroom and man-marking, just like the previous match against Brentford."
Tottenham Hotspur's Danish manager, Thomas Frank, previously coached Brentford, where he held Guardiola's City to a 2-2 draw. Guardiola continued, "You have to play differently. We lacked some simple things, and I never asked the players to do anything exceptional."
He continued: "I have no doubts about my team. Last season we didn't achieve anything, but we were very good in training. Maybe we missed some simple things under pressure, but we created enough chances, and that's football."
The Spaniard insisted his team was not in crisis, commenting: "After the 4-0 win over Wolves in the first round, everyone said everything was fine, and I said it was just one game."
He continued: "I know how we work and what the players are doing. There are many good things, but we have to improve."
Finally, the City coach said: "Step by step, we will improve and build more bonds."
