FIFA announced on Friday evening that it had received 5.4 million pre-sale requests for tickets to the 2026 World Cup from credit card holders and sponsors.

FIFA explained that applications came from 216 countries and territories during the 10-day application period, which ended at 00:15 GMT, led by the three host countries: the United States, Mexico, and Canada.

The other seven countries with the most ticket requests were Germany, England, Brazil, Argentina, Colombia, Spain and Italy.

FIFA President Gianni Infantino described the request as a strong indication of interest in the tournament, which has been expanded to include 48 teams and 104 matches, describing it as the largest, most comprehensive, and most exciting event ever.

Those wishing to purchase tickets for group stage matches, starting at $60, will be notified on September 29, and given a deadline to purchase them, beginning October 1. According to FIFA, this deadline does not guarantee that tickets will be available for sale.

The remaining tickets will be available in different stages, before and after the group stage draw scheduled for December 5 in Washington.

So far, 15 teams have qualified, led by defending champions Argentina, along with the three host nations who automatically participate.

It's worth noting that FIFA also announced the launch of a secure platform for reselling tickets
