Argentine star Lionel Messi delivered a heartfelt message during his surprise visit to Camp Nou on Sunday evening, where he reminisced about his time with FC Barcelona and the fans with whom he achieved his footballing glory.
The Argentinian, who now plays for Inter Miami in the United States, posted pictures of himself at the Camp Nou stadium and wrote a heartfelt message that received more than 7 million likes on Instagram .
Messi expressed his longing for the Camp Nou stadium and for the embrace of the "Blaugrana" fans, wishing to return to say goodbye to them after circumstances prevented him from doing so, following his move to Paris Saint-Germain in 2021.
The Argentine star said: "Last night I returned to the place I missed with all my heart, a place where I was very happy, where you made me feel thousands of times that I was the happiest person in the world. I hope one day I can return, not just to say goodbye as a player, as I have never been able to do."
Lionel Messi left Barcelona against his will due to the financial problems the club was suffering from, even though he had hoped to end his football career in the arms of the "Blaugrana" fans.
After leaving the club, Messi etched his name in the wall of football legends after leading the Argentine national team to victory in the 2022 World Cup.
Last month, Messi extended his contract with Inter Miami until 2028.
Despite being 38 years old, Messi is still in top form and is striving to lead his national team to retain its World Cup title.
