“Football fans worldwide, especially in Africa, eagerly await the 2025 CAF Awards ceremony, presented by CAF this Wednesday.”

Football fans around the world in general, and African football fans in particular, are eagerly awaiting the 2025 CAF Awards ceremony, presented by the Confederation of African Football (CAF), on Wednesday.

The ceremony, hosted by Mohammed VI University in Rabat, will see numerous awards presented on that prestigious evening to players, coaches, clubs and national teams from across the continent who have excelled during the year that is drawing to a close in a few weeks.

During the ceremony, the winners of the Player of the Year, Player of the Year, Best Men's Team Coach, Best Women's Team Coach, Goalkeeper of the Year, and Goalkeeper of the Year awards will be revealed.

The winners of the awards for best male and female players within African clubs , best young male and female players, best men's and women's national teams, and best men's and women's clubs will also be identified .

Everyone is waiting for the unveiling of the best player in Africa for this year, which is being contested by Egyptian winger Mohamed Salah, the top scorer for Liverpool, Moroccan right-back Achraf Hakimi, who plays for Paris Saint-Germain, and Nigerian Victor Osimhen, the striker for Galatasaray.|

The nomination brings to mind the list of nominees for the same award in 2023, when it included the same trio, with Osimhen winning the award at that time.

Salah played a starring role in Liverpool’s Premier League title win last season, continuing his brilliance with 29 goals and 18 assists in 38 games, totaling 47 goal contributions, earning him the top scorer and top assist providers awards in the prestigious competition. He also won several other awards, most notably winning the Player of the Year award in England, presented by the Professional Footballers Association, becoming the first player in history to win this prestigious award 3 times.

"The Pharaoh" also helped his national team reach the 2026 World Cup finals, for the fourth time in Egypt's history.

As for Achraf Hakimi, he delivered an exceptional performance with Paris Saint-Germain, with whom he won the Champions League, the French League , the French Cup and the European Super Cup, and reached the Club World Cup final in the United States last summer, and played a prominent role in the Moroccan national team’s qualification for the 2026 World Cup finals.

During the last season, Hakimi scored 11 goals and provided 16 assists for his teammates, in 55 matches played in various competitions with the French capital team last season.

In contrast, Osimhen continued to deliver outstanding scoring numbers with his Turkish club. The Nigerian striker scored 37 goals in 41 matches last season and maintained his high level at the start of the new season, but he was unable to lead the "Eagles" to the World Cup, after losing the African play-off final recently against the Democratic Republic of Congo.

While Salah won the award in 2017 and 2018, and Osimhen won it two years ago, Hakimi is still looking to win it for the first time in his football career, and if he wins it he will become the first Moroccan to win it since Mustapha Hadji did so in 1998.

In contrast, the list of the best goalkeepers in Africa includes the Moroccan duo Munir Mohamedi and Yassine Bounou, goalkeepers of Renaissance Berkane of Morocco and Al-Hilal of Saudi Arabia respectively, and South African Ronwen Williams, goalkeeper of Mamelodi Sundowns of South Africa.

As for the award for best player within Africa, it is being contested by Democratic Republic of Congo's Fiston Mayele and Morocco's Mohamed Chibi, the duo from the Egyptian Pyramids team , and Morocco's Oussama Lamlioui, a player for Renaissance Berkane.

The competition for the Best Coach award is between Cape Verde national team coach Bobesta, Moroccan Mohamed Wahbi, coach of the Moroccan youth team under 20 years old, and his compatriot Walid Regragui, coach of the first team.
