Real Madrid coach Xabi Alonso stressed that his team needs to continue winning away from home, after the team beat Greek side Olympiacos 4-3 in the Champions League.
This came in a press conference held by the technical director one day before the team’s match against Girona, as part of the 14th round of the Spanish League , which will be held at the Montilivi Stadium on Sunday.
Alonso said in the press conference, as reported on the club's official website: "After our last Champions League match in Athens, we know that this is the kind of game where we need to rediscover the feeling of winning away from home. It's really strange to play so many consecutive away games, in the league and in the Champions League. But we need to win to keep collecting points and maintain our lead. That's our objective. The team is in good shape, we've got players back and we're coming into the game in better circumstances."
He added: "We need consistency. We've had good spells of play, but we've lacked a complete game where we feel in control and confident. We've improved defensively, but I'm not entirely satisfied with some things we can improve, especially the goals we've conceded in recent matches. We'll perform better. We're improving with the ball too, we're building our style and that's the way forward."
He continued: "We want to continue playing with strength, initiative, and confidence, especially to regain possession. When there is a slight lapse in organization, things become more difficult. We need organization, intensity, and conviction in our work."
Alonso noted the return of " Rudiger and Militao, and as for Asensio, we will wait until tomorrow. Hoesen is not ready, Mastantonu will also be in the squad."
Regarding the return of his Argentine player Mastantono, the coach confirmed: "He is in better condition. He was able to train for 10 days without pain. He suffered a little on the field, and that is why we preferred to stop before his condition worsened. He is now training normally and without pain. He has returned to the team, and he needs to regain the team's dynamics."
Regarding his English player Trent Alexander-Arnold, Alonso said: "I think we will see a better Trent very soon. It's positive that he was able to play 90 minutes against Elche and Olympiacos after returning from injury. We need him. This is his first year, and he has only been with the team for a few months, so this adaptation process is very normal. He is in good shape and he is also very ambitious because he has played at the highest levels. We want to see him develop and we have to support him during this period of big changes. His positive feeling is really good."
