 The curtain fell on the career of American star John Cena with his loss in his final wrestling match against Austrian Gunther in an emotional Saturday Night Live event held in Washington, early Sunday morning.

John Cena's constant motto has been "Never give up," but what happened today marked the end of that journey, as the match ended with him losing by submission , a loss that doesn't happen often for the 48-year-old.

John Cena's final match had been long awaited. He's a guaranteed name in the WWE Hall of Fame, and his film career has taken up most of his attention in recent years.

Despite retiring from wrestling, Cena won't be entirely absent from WWE, as he will continue his role as a company ambassador, and his official merchandise will remain available in stores. This historic night can be summed up in a few simple words: "Thank you, John Cena."
