The National Communications Authority (HIQ) held a national consultative meeting to develop a cybersecurity risk management framework and compliance procedures. Representatives from government institutions, the education sector, private companies, and civil society organizations, along with technical experts, participated in the meeting.The meeting aimed to gather opinions and proposals for developing an integrated system that enhances cybersecurity in the country, protects critical digital infrastructure, and ensures effective risk management and adherence to security standards across various sectors.
In his address at the meeting, the Director General of the HIQ, Mr. Mustafa Yassin Sheikh, emphasized the importance of thoroughly reviewing the presented documents, urging all stakeholders to study them carefully and provide comprehensive feedback.
The meeting was officially opened by the Minister of State for Communications and Technology, MP Ahmed Diriya, who emphasized the growing importance of cybersecurity in light of the continuous expansion of technology use and its impact on various sectors, such as education and commerce.
He noted that this progress, while beneficial, may also pose risks if not addressed with appropriate measures. He stressed that establishing a framework for risk management and security compliance is a necessary step, and that the National Telecommunications Authority is leading this effort on behalf of the government.
The meeting also highlighted the importance of strengthening cooperation among various institutions to confront the increasing cyber threats and build a more resilient digital ecosystem. Participants discussed several topics, including risk identification, compliance mechanisms, and the role of different entities in enhancing digital security.
The outcomes of this meeting are expected to contribute to the completion of the risk management framework and cybersecurity compliance procedures, which will support the strengthening of digital security in Somalia.
