Construction has begun on a water reservoir as part of a housing project for flood victims in Kismayo.

Construction continues on the project to build 200 housing units, along with health and educational facilities and basic infrastructure, for those affected by the floods in Kismayo. The project is funded by the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center, and progress is being made across all its components.

On February 9, 2026, the project saw the commencement of excavation and construction work on a 40-cubic-meter water reservoir, a vital facility upon which the project relies to provide essential services to the beneficiary families.

The construction of the water reservoir is part of the project's infrastructure development plan, which aims to provide an integrated residential environment encompassing water, health, and education services. This will contribute to improving living conditions and enhancing the health and environmental stability of the population affected by the floods.

The project officially commenced on November 24, 2025, with a foundation stone laying ceremony attended by representatives from the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center, officials from the Jubaland government, and the Social Solidarity Association, the project's implementing partner.

The work is being carried out under joint engineering and technical supervision from government agencies, the engineering consultancy firm, the donor agency, and the implementing partner to ensure adherence to approved technical and engineering standards at all stages of implementation.

The project aims to support families affected by floods by providing safe housing and essential services, as part of efforts to strengthen community recovery and improve the resilience of residents to natural disasters and humanitarian challenges.
