The Minister of Defense emphasizes the importance of the partnership with the European Union in combating terrorism and piracy.
On Sunday, His Excellency Ahmed Moalim Fiqi, Minister of Defense of the Federal Republic of Somalia, participated in the dialogue sessions between Somalia and the European Union, which focused on issues of peace, stability, and security.During the meeting, His Excellency reviewed the progress of military operations against terrorist groups, the security challenges in the region, and the Federal Government's vision for restructuring and developing defense institutions, particularly during the transitional phase related to the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM).
His Excellency explained that the Somali Armed Forces, with the support of local forces and international partners, have intensified their operations in central and southern Somalia to weaken the capabilities of terrorist groups, secure residential areas and strategic roads, and expand state authority and stabilization efforts.
The Minister affirmed that the security transition process is based on full Somali leadership, military readiness, accountability mechanisms, and ongoing reforms within the defense institutions, including force management, payroll, and verification and monitoring systems.
His Excellency the Minister of Defense emphasized the importance of the strategic partnership between Somalia and the European Union, particularly in supporting the Somali Armed Forces, which contributes to combating terrorism and piracy and enhancing security and stability at both the national and regional levels.
