Somali Defense Minister praises security sector reform program
Somali Defense Minister Ahmed Moalim Fiqi attended the closing ceremony of the National Security Architecture Enhancement Program on Wednesday, highlighting its impact on the country's security sector over the past decade.In his remarks at the ceremony, held in Mogadishu, Fiqi stated that the initiative played a pivotal role in consolidating Somalia's national security framework, contributing to the unification of security policies, strengthening institutions, and enhancing the efficiency of the armed forces and security services.
He noted that the program has significantly contributed to improving coordination among security agencies and building professional expertise within Somalia’s defense and law enforcement institutions. Also present at the ceremony were the Minister of Internal Security, Abdullahi Sheikh Ismail, the National Security Advisor, Awais Haji, and the British Ambassador to Somalia, Charles King.
The Minister also thanked the UK government for its continued support, particularly for programs aimed at strengthening Somalia’s defense and security institutions. He emphasized that this support reflects Britain’s commitment to supporting Somalia’s efforts to build a stable and peaceful state.
