The Cabinet approves a new leadership for the Prisons Authority.
The Cabinet, in its weekly meeting today, chaired by Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre, approved the appointment of a new leadership for the Prisons Service. This move is part of the government's efforts to strengthen security management within prisons and ensure the smooth and efficient operation of prisons.Major General Mohamed Sheikh Hassan Hamid was appointed as the new commander of the Correctional Forces, the body responsible for managing the country's prisons. He is a military leader with a distinguished record of military and administrative achievements, having previously held senior positions in the armed forces.
This decision comes as part of the Cabinet's ongoing monitoring of the security situation and its efforts to combat extremist groups. The management of prisons is a key component of the government's strategy to enhance stability and the security of its citizens.
The government affirmed that the appointment of a new leadership for the prison service will contribute to improved performance within prisons, enhance oversight and supervision of inmates, and ensure the implementation of approved legal policies and procedures.
The Council heard a report on the successes achieved in Operation Badr during Ramadan, which included the liberation of the Mubarak and Dar es Salaam districts in the Lower Shabelle region. The Council affirmed that the forces will continue their operations to eliminate extremist groups, with a focus on liberating major cities across the country. The Council also approved the 1988 United Nations Convention against Illicit Traffic in Psychotropic and Substance Abuse, presented by the Ministry of Health.
