The UAE provides aid to Somaliland to help overcome the drought crisis

 The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has today provided food aid to Somaliland.

The assistance was taken over by UAE officials from the Somaliland National Drought Committee.


The plane carrying the aid and officials from the United Arab Emirates landed at Hargeisa International Airport.


Faisal Jama, deputy chairman of the National Disaster Preparedness and Food Security Agency, thanked the UAE government.

He said the UAE government had responded to a call from the Somaliland government regarding the drought in Somaliland.

Mr. Mustafe Abdillahi Hashi, Director of the National Food and Drug Administration, said that there is good cooperation between the Republic of Somaliland and the government of the United Arab Emirates.

Omar-Sayid, Director General of the Somaliland Civil Aviation Authority, also spoke about the deep relationship between the UAE and the Somaliland government. He said the partnership was fruitful.


For his part, UAE Ambassador to Somaliland Abdalle Naqdi said the donation is a prelude but will be followed by other UAE donations to the Somaliland government.


Finally, the Minister of Health and a member of the National Drought Committee, Hassan Mohamed Gafaadi, said that the UAE was the first government to respond to the Somaliland government's call for drought relief in the country.
