Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mahmoud renewed his pledge to fight terrorism and eliminate the terrorist group Al-Shabaab, after a day in Mogadishu that lasted with two terrorist bombings that left hundreds of civilians dead and wounded, including women and children.

President Mahmoud himself announced that the death toll from the “horrific” Zubi bombings had risen to 100, and more than 300 others were injured. After his visit today to the site of the terrorist attack, he said: "We will defeat and we have already defeated this extremist group," referring to the Somali Al-Shabaab movement, which has recently stepped up its attacks.

The Somali president expressed his condolences to the Somali citizens who were killed by Al-Shabab “terrorists” at the Zubi intersection in Mogadishu, stressing that “the brutality and hostility of the terrorist enemy towards all Somalis has become more evident as a result of the atrocities it commits, such as explosions, killings, shootings, burning wells, and destroying mosques, targeting women, children and the elderly.

He stressed that the crimes and violations committed by “Al-Shabaab militias are due to the money that Somali merchants pay to them,” reiterating his call to Somali merchants not to pay the money to the “terrorist enemy.”

The Somali president called on his country’s scholars to name the “militias” of Al-Shabaab as “the Kharijites”, which reveals all their “false pretexts” towards Islam, adding: “Today there is not a single person who doubts the official plan of Al-Shabaab terrorists to kill our people anywhere and at any time. But this will not work and we will liberate the country.”

For his part, the Somali police spokesman, Major Sadiq Adam Ali, gave details of the two explosions, saying that "terrorists" targeted educational centers near the Zubi intersection, where the street was crowded with people and vehicles at the time of the explosion.

The police spokesman said that the security forces obtained information about the "terrorist" scheme, and took precautionary security measures, and this led to "reducing the losses" that the "enemy" intended to inflict on the Somali people, explaining that the police service is currently working on counting the damage caused by the attacks. The two explosions.

The commander of the Somali army, Brigadier-General Adwa Yusuf Raghe, held a meeting on Saturday evening with senior officers of the African Union peacekeeping forces in the country, “Atmis”, to discuss activating cooperation between the two parties, especially strengthening military operations against Al-Shabaab “militias” linked to Al-Qaeda, which aims to eliminate against "terrorists" who seek to destabilize security and stability.
