The Somali president pledged not to back down from his resolve to eliminate Al-Shabaab

The President of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mahmoud, wrote an article entitled “There is no turning back in our resolve to eliminate the terrorist movement,” in which he stated that Somalia is in an official state of war with terrorist groups who are cruel, violent and of low morals, and if we do not defeat them, they will destroy our future generations.

President Hassan Sheikh said that Al-Shabab blew up water wells in remote places where the Somali community used to drink, and for many years it has been taking illegal royalties from people under threat of death.

He added, "I salute the courage shown by our steadfast Somali people, who rose up against terrorism and supported their valiant security forces, to respond to the atrocities and massacres committed by Al-Shabab against our people and our nation."

The President stressed that there is no better and more appropriate time to eliminate these terrorists than the present time, as the people are united to eliminate them, and that we will achieve progress and prosperity together after we cooperate with each other, and we hold the hand of those who cooperate with terrorist groups, and we strike them with an iron hand.

"We will continue to pursue the enemy and liberate many important areas, and then provide much-needed humanitarian and development assistance to those areas and their people alive," he said.

The Somali president stated that Al-Shabaab will not be defeated with guns alone, but we must also review our academic and methodological thinking, and shut down the illicit and terrorist financing sources, calling on the Somali people once again to trust in our collective efforts and to courageously oppose all those who work with terrorists.

He said, "In truth, we cannot achieve sustainable, social, economic, social and political development if we do not lift Al-Shabaab from the shoulders of the people, and that the process of liberating the country from this gang is a collective responsibility."
