Yesterday, Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mahmoud held a meeting with the leaders of the Somali Armed Forces in the city of Dusmarib, the capital of Galmudug State.
The President was briefed on the progress of the ongoing military operations in Galmudug and Hirshabelle states from the military commanders, as the Somali National Army is trying to complete the first phase of the war against Al-Shabaab.
The meeting also focused on ways to eliminate the Al-Shabaab movement linked to Al-Qaeda in the planned second phase, in which the front-line countries will participate. According to sources close to the meeting, President Mohamud praised the Somali army for relying on itself and defending the homeland from terrorist threats.
Over the past two months, Al-Shabaab has suffered heavy losses, as the allied Somali forces succeeded in liberating several areas that were under the control of Al-Shabaab fighters.
