An upcoming visit by a UN expert to Somalia
Ms. Isha Divan, the independent UN expert on the human rights situation in Somalia, is expected to visit the Federal Republic of Somalia during the next two weeks. The expert will present a comprehensive report on her second visit to the Human Rights Council since her appointment in May 2020 in October 2024.
According to the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, the expert will visit Divan, the capital, Mogadishu, and two federal member states to assess the human rights situation, including efforts to identify, prevent and address human rights violations.
Divan is scheduled to hold talks with senior government officials and representatives of the United Nations Assistance Mission for Somalia (UNSOM), the United Nations Support Office for Somalia (UNSOS) and the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM), UN agencies and civil society representatives.
