The Somali Minister of Finance addresses Arab financial institutions at the annual meeting in Dubai

 Mr. Bihi Iman Aghi, Minister of Finance of the Federal Government of Somalia, participated in the opening session of the annual meeting of Arab financial institutions in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, which aims to promote economic cooperation and development among Arab countries.

In his speech, the Minister discussed the progress achieved by the Somali economy, the ongoing financial reforms, and the achievements of the Somali Federal Government. He also highlighted the completion of the debt relief plan, which ended at the end of last year.

Aghi touched on the challenges facing the Red Sea region, especially piracy incidents that targeted ships crossing the region in recent months. The Minister stressed the need for international cooperation to address security concerns in the Red Sea, noting the importance of protecting maritime trade routes to achieve regional stability and economic growth.

The meeting also included statements from Kristalina Georgieva, Executive Director of the International Monetary Fund, who urged Arab countries to “prioritize economic opportunities to enhance recovery efforts in the wake of disasters.” Georgieva stressed the importance of creating avenues for economic growth in developing societies to enhance resilience and prosperity.

The Annual Meeting of Arab Financial Institutions serves as a platform for dialogue and cooperation among member states to address common economic challenges and explore opportunities for mutual benefit.
