Withdrawal of Djiboutian forces from their bases in the city of Beledweyne

Djiboutian forces operating within the African Union Transitional Mission in Somalia withdrew on Tuesday from their military bases in the city of Beledweyne, the center of Hiran Region, Hirshabelle State. These Djiboutian forces had been stationed in these bases for more than ten years, to maintain the security of the Hiran region, especially the city of Beledweyne.

The Hiran regional administration did not comment on the reason behind the withdrawal of Djiboutian forces from their bases, but reports from the city stated that the deployment of Somali forces belonging to two conflicting administrations - Hirshabelle and Hiran State - was the reason for the withdrawal of those forces.

Since 2011, the Republic of Djibouti has been contributing forces to the African Union Mission in Somalia, where the Djiboutian forces were assuming security duties in the Hiran region in the center of the country, especially the capital of the region, “Baldweyne.”
