President Hassan Sheikh delivers a speech at the Oslo Forum
The President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mahmoud, delivered a keynote address at the Oslo Forum 2024, which brought together leaders, conflict mediators and other actors under the slogan “Mediation Against All Odds.”In his address to the meeting, the President highlighted the Somali government's historic struggle with the ongoing threat of international terrorism and the recent multi-pronged offensive against Al-Shabaab, which achieved significant gains and led to the liberation of large areas.
The President touched on the Somali government's commitment to spare no effort in pursuing peaceful means to reduce extremist violence, including initiating political engagements and offering amnesty to members who condemn extremist ideology. He also stressed that “the global agenda of terrorists complicates these efforts.”
The President also stated that Ethiopia’s recent illegal actions against Somalia’s territorial integrity – which violate international norms – continue to undermine regional stability and the fight against terrorists.
