Somalia reveals the number of forces that will replace the African Union mission
Hussein Maalim, National Security Advisor to the Somali President, revealed a new operation after the withdrawal of African Union Transitional Mission forces from the country at the end of this year. The advisor indicated that 12,000 soldiers will work in Somalia as a successor to the African Union mission, explaining that their operation will take a short time, which he did not specify.Moallem added that the Somali government will make the decision regarding the countries whose forces will be part of the new operation, noting that 10,000 of those forces will carry out the tasks that were carried out by the African Union mission, while 2,000 soldiers will carry out other tasks.
The UN Security Council had previously approved a gradual withdrawal of African forces in Somalia, and it is expected that this withdrawal will be completed at the end of this year.
