Jubaland opposes extending the term of regional state heads
The Jubbaland regional government expressed its strong opposition to the results of the National Advisory Council meeting, especially with regard to the election file and the extension of the mandate of some regional administrations.A press release issued by the state of Jubbaland confirmed that the administration has complete independence in holding its elections on the specified date, in accordance with Article 80 of the Jubbaland Constitution. Jubaland also criticized the federal government for neglecting to include Puntland State and the Khatima Transitional Administration in the meeting's discussions.
This statement comes after the leaders of the Somali Federal Government, the heads of Galmudug, Hirshabelle and South West states and the mayor of Mogadishu reached an agreement to shift the country towards direct party-based elections, further complicating the electoral file in the country.
