The Somali Prime Minister meets with a UN official to discuss the transition to security in the country

 Somali Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre held a meeting with Atul Kahari, Under-Secretary-General for Operational Support at the United Nations, and the meeting focused on the security transition in the country.

The talks emphasized collaborative efforts with the African Union, the United Nations and other international partners regarding the post-AU Transitional Mission, now referred to as AUSSOM.

Prime Minister Berri highlighted the importance of increasing UN support to strengthen security capabilities in Somalia. Discussions included strategies to combat Al-Shabaab and the broader security architecture after the African Union Transitional Mission in Somalia.

For his part, Kahari praised Somalia's upcoming role in the United Nations Security Council for the period 2025-2026, expressing his optimism about Somalia's growing influence in promoting regional and global peace, and the dialogue reflected Somalia's commitment to strengthening its security framework and international partnerships in light of this critical stage.

The meeting emphasized Somalia's proactive approach in dealing with global bodies such as the United Nations to ensure a smoother transition of security responsibilities, with the aim of building a more stable and secure state.
