General Asad Dayano officially takes over command of the Somali Police

 General Asad Osman Abdullahi Dayanu officially assumed command of the Somali Police Force during a ceremony held at the police headquarters in the capital, Mogadishu, in the presence of a number of prominent officials, including Somali Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre.

General Diiano took over command from Major General Salb Ahmed Ferin, who was appointed Deputy Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation after leading the police for more than a year. The appointment of General Diiano is considered a politically significant move, as he was a presidential candidate in the 2019 and 2024 Puntland elections, and continues to have a prominent role in local politics, while being a critic of the administration of President Said Abdullahi Deni.

His new leadership comes at a time when Somali security forces need a comprehensive modernization. In his first speech after assuming office, General Deano called on police personnel to strengthen their efforts in maintaining national security and protecting civilians, stressing the importance of adhering to the laws that regulate their work.
