Prime Minister Hamza receives a Kenyan delegation in Mogadishu

On Tuesday, the Prime Minister of the Federal Government of Somalia, Mr. Hamza Abdi Barre, received a delegation from the Kenyan government that included Mahboob Maalim, former Executive Secretary of IGAD, and Mohamed Abdi Afi, former IGAD envoy and former Senator Abdirahman Ali Hassan (Alu) in his office in Mogadishu.

Official media reported that the two sides discussed strengthening the relationship between the two neighboring countries and cooperation in the fields of security, politics and trade, and that Barre thanked the Kenyan delegation for his country’s role in supporting efforts to build the Somali state and enhance stability in the region.

But the main task of the Kenyan delegation is to try to find a settlement of the existing differences between the Somali federal government and the administration of Jubbaland State, led by Ahmed Mohamed Islam “Madube,” on the issue of elections. The delegation previously met with Madobe in Kismayo.

The delegation's visit to Mogadishu comes at a time when the disputes between the Somali government and the state of Jubbaland have gotten out of control, and the regional administration has become insisting on holding its own elections, while the Somali government says that it does not have any legitimacy to do so, and the chances of success of the Kenyan mediation are considered very slim.
