The vote counting process begins in Somaliland after peaceful elections

The vote counting process began today in the unilaterally declared Republic of Somaliland, after the peaceful elections that took place yesterday, Wednesday. A large number of different segments of society participated in the elections, amid strict security measures to ensure the electoral process ran smoothly and transparently.

The campaigns of the candidates, namely the current president, Musa Bihi Abdi, Abdel Rahman Aro, head of the “Watani” party, and Faisal Ali Warabi, head of the “Awaad” party, focused on vital issues such as the economy, international recognition, and foreign affairs, in addition to issues of peace and security.

While vote counting is still underway, the Election Commission warned against hasty expectations about the results, stressing that preliminary results will be announced after all votes are counted, which may take several days.
