Somali Foreign Minister meets Kenyan Vice President to boost bilateral ties

Somalia’s Foreign Minister Ambassador Ahmed Maalim Fiqi held discussions with Kenyan Vice President Professor Kithuri Kindiki at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in Nairobi on Wednesday. In a statement, the Somali Foreign Ministry described the talks as part of ongoing efforts to deepen relations between the two countries, which share a long history of diplomatic and commercial cooperation.

The meeting focused on strengthening bilateral relations and enhancing regional cooperation. Fiqi, who stopped in Nairobi on his return from diplomatic duties in Cairo, reiterated Somalia’s dedication to promoting peace, cooperation and mutual progress in the East African region.

Although the Somali government did not provide any further details, sources indicate that the discussions included the role of the Kenyan Defence Forces in the African Union Stabilization Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM) and broader aspects of the new mission.
