Somalia and Egypt reach historic agreements

 The President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, His Excellency Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, and the President of the Arab Republic of Egypt, His Excellency Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, held a pivotal meeting at Al-Ittihadiya Palace in Cairo, which culminated in a series of important agreements aimed at strengthening bilateral relations.

During this high-level meeting, the two presidents agreed to elevate the relationship between Somalia and Egypt to the level of strategic cooperation. This step reflects the deep historical ties between the two countries and their commitment to enhance cooperation across various sectors, including education, justice, politics, security, cooperation and economy.

In the field of education, Egyptian universities, especially Al-Azhar University, will work to increase scholarships and training opportunities for Somali students and professionals, and promote the development of diverse knowledge and skills. The two presidents also pledged to accelerate cooperation between their institutions, especially in the judicial and security sectors. Egypt affirmed its support for the Somali government and people in their ongoing fight against terrorism.

President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud and President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi witnessed a historic agreement signed by the foreign ministers of Somalia and Egypt to exempt Somali diplomatic passport holders from entry requirements. This agreement is a step towards enhancing diplomatic cooperation and facilitating travel for all citizens of both countries.

The two leaders stressed the importance of these agreements in strengthening ties between Somalia and Egypt, and tasked the Somali and Egyptian joint committees to implement these agreements expeditiously to achieve the common goal of fraternal cooperation.
