President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud participated in the Heads of State Summit of the African Union Support Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM) held at the Presidential Palace in Entebbe, Uganda. The summit brought together regional leaders from Kenya, Djibouti, Egypt and Ethiopia, along with representatives of key international organisations, including the United Nations, the African Union, the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), the European Union, the United Kingdom and the United States.
In his address to the summit, President Mohamud reviewed the significant progress made by Somali security forces in combating terrorism, stressing the continued need for international support. He particularly stressed the importance of continued assistance in building the capabilities of the Somali National Army to eventually assume full responsibility for the country's security. The President highlighted many recent achievements achieved by the Somali Federal Government, Including the country's accession to the East African Community, its election to the UN Security Council, the lifting of the arms embargo, economic reforms, and the implementation of direct voter registration.
Summit participants reached several key agreements aimed at strengthening the security framework in Somalia. These commitments included accelerating support for training and equipping the Somali National Army, enhancing air support and intelligence capabilities for counter-terrorism operations, and implementing the fundraising strategy for the African Union Peacekeeping Force (AUSSOM). The leaders also stressed the importance of cooperation between the Somali federal government and member states to ensure stability in the liberated territories.
President Mohamud expressed his gratitude to the participating countries for their continued support for Somalia's efforts to achieve peace and stability. He reaffirmed Somalia's commitment to completing the development of a professional national military force capable of maintaining security throughout the country. The summit concluded with a common understanding among all participants about the importance of sustainable international cooperation to enhance Somalia's security gains and support its continued efforts to achieve stability.
