The Governor of Banadir region, Hassan Mohamed Hussein (Muungaab), spoke at the opening ceremony of the 8th grade examination in Banadir region, promising that during his term in office he will increase the quality and number of schools providing free education.

Governor Muungaab said that Banadir region already has 50 schools providing free education, and they are planning to build new schools, while the dilapidated ones will be renovated.

This year, the total number of students who sat for the 8th grade examination in Banadir region has increased, with more than 41,000 students taking the exam this morning in 108 centers in Mogadishu.

The Governor added that it is hoped that next year the number of schools in the region will reach 100 schools, with the number of students also expected to increase.

“Let’s clear the educational facilities in Banadir region, so that next year the number of students studying will reach 100 thousand,” said the Mayor of Mogadishu.

Muungaab also called on residents of government educational institutions to vacate peacefully, so that the government has the opportunity to operate the institutions.

The Banadir regional administration and the Somali Ministry of Education have been making efforts in recent years to improve the education of Somali children, with the government employing thousands of teachers to work in schools across the country.
