Mogadishu – Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre presided over the graduation ceremony on Thursday of a new batch of Somali National Army Special Forces, known as Gurgur, who completed advanced military training at the Turksom Military Academy in Mogadishu.

The Gurgur unit, trained with the support of the Turkish government, forms a key part of Somalia’s elite forces in the country’s ongoing counterterrorism operations and national security efforts.

In his address at the ceremony, Prime Minister Barre commended Turkey’s unwavering support in building Somali security institutions and lauded the “strategic military partnership” between the two countries.

He urged the graduating soldiers to demonstrate discipline, patriotism, and integrity as they begin their active service, emphasizing their crucial role in maintaining national stability and defeating terrorism.

“The skills you have acquired will not only protect the homeland but will also bring Somalia closer to lasting peace and security,” the Prime Minister said.

The Turksom Academy is one of Somalia's leading military training centers, reflecting the deepening cooperation between Mogadishu and Ankara in the defense and development sectors.
