Somali Police Chief Receives Modern Vehicles from the United States
Mogadishu – Somali Police Chief Brigadier General Asad Osman Abdullahi on Wednesday officially received modern vehicles donated by the United States government to the police force, particularly the Counter-Terrorism Division.
The vehicles were handed over by Stephen Gillen, Deputy U.S. Ambassador to Somalia, at a ceremony in Mogadishu. The Somali Police Chief thanked the U.S. administration for its continued support and assistance to the security forces.
He noted that the new vehicles will be particularly beneficial to the Special Counter-Terrorism Forces, which sometimes require rapid action and modern equipment to deal with the threat from Al-Shabaab and other insurgent groups.
“Significant progress has been made in developing and equipping the counter-terrorism forces, and these vehicles will be part of the efforts to ensure the country’s security,” Commander Asad Osman said.
The United States is a close friend of Somalia, particularly in the areas of security, military training, and counterterrorism.
