Morocco's national team coach, Walid Regragui, spoke on Friday about the injury suffered by Paris Saint-Germain's right-back, Achraf Hakimi, against Bayern Munich in the Champions League.

Regragui said in a press conference that Hakimi has started his treatment program to return as soon as possible to support the "Atlas Lions" in the Africa Cup of Nations tournament next December.

He stressed that Hakimi is "an important player on and off the field," explaining that the medical staff of the "Atlas Lions" are monitoring his condition along with the medical staff of his Parisian club.

He explained that his staff will make every effort to ensure Hakimi's return as soon as possible, and in full fitness.

The coach added that the duration of Hakimi's absence cannot be precisely determined, noting that everyone hopes for his return as soon as possible.

Regragui also spoke about the difficulty of replacing Hakimi at right-back, adding that Noussair Mazraoui would be the first candidate to fill that position.

Hakimi suffered a serious ankle injury as a result of a reckless tackle by Bayern Munich player Luis Diaz last Tuesday.

Paris Saint-Germain said in a statement on Wednesday that "Hakimi suffered a severe sprain to his left ankle, which will prevent him from playing for several weeks."

The Spanish newspaper "Marca" revealed that Hakimi underwent medical examinations on Wednesday morning to determine the severity of the injury he suffered.

Marca explained that medical reports revealed that Hakimi is suffering from a tear in the ligaments between the leg bones, with a slight impact on the deltoid ligament, and he is likely to be out of action for approximately two months.
