President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi of Egypt received President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud of the Federal Republic of Somalia in a meeting that highlighted the strong and historic ties between the two nations. During the discussions, President El-Sisi reaffirmed Egypt’s steadfast support for Somalia’s unity, security, and territorial integrity. He emphasized that any action undermining Somalia’s stability or sovereignty would be unacceptable, framing it as a clear adherence to the principles of the United Nations Charter.
President Mohamud expressed his happiness at visiting Egypt and meeting with President El-Sisi, praising the brotherly relations between the two countries. He also appreciated Egypt’s continued support for Somalia’s stability and efforts in enhancing security across the Middle East and the Horn of Africa, while stressing Somalia’s commitment to strengthening coordination with Egypt to promote regional peace and stability.
The talks also focused on expanding bilateral relations, exploring opportunities for cooperation in trade, education, development, and capacity building. President El-Sisi highlighted the importance of activating the Strategic Partnership Agreement signed in January 2025. Egypt reaffirmed its readiness to provide support through the Egyptian Partnership for Development programs, a move highly appreciated by the Somali President.
In addition, both leaders discussed the latest regional developments, agreeing on the necessity of resolving conflicts peacefully and securing long-term stability, particularly in the Horn of Africa. They stressed the importance of safeguarding national institutions, protecting citizens’ resources, and strengthening maritime security, highlighting the critical role these measures play in ensuring a safe and stable regional environment.
The meeting reflected a shared commitment to reinforcing cooperation between Egypt and Somalia and to promoting peace, stability, and sustainable development across the region.
