City host Liverpool in a fiery clash in the FA Cup quarter-finals
A fiery clash awaits Manchester City and Liverpool in the FA Cup quarter-finals, following Monday's draw. The match, to be held at the Etihad Stadium, will be another chapter in the rivalry between the two clubs, and a chance for revenge for Liverpool, who have lost both legs of their Premier League tie for the first time in decades. It will also be a chance for City to avenge their defeat to the Reds in the 2022 FA Cup semi-final.Manchester City, under manager Pep Guardiola, secured their place in the quarter-finals with a 3-1 victory over Newcastle United on Saturday, while Liverpool progressed with the same scoreline against Wolverhampton Wanderers.
City have reached the quarter-finals for the eighth consecutive time and remain on course for a fourth straight final appearance as they continue their pursuit of a rare quadruple. Liverpool have won the FA Cup eight times, while Manchester City have lifted the trophy seven times.
The second match will see Premier League leaders Arsenal take on Southampton, with the Gunners traveling to face the Championship side. Arsenal, 14-time FA Cup winners, will be looking to secure a quadruple, having already reached the League Cup final and the Champions League round of 16, just like Manchester City.
Meanwhile, League One side Port Vale caused an upset in the fifth round on Sunday, beating Premier League visitors Sunderland 1-0, but they face a tough challenge against Chelsea, who overcame Wrexham 4-2 in extra time on Saturday. Leeds United will travel to West Ham, who progressed to the FA Cup quarter-finals after beating Brentford on penalties.
The FA Cup quarter-final draw is as follows:
- Southampton vs. Arsenal, Chelsea vs. Port Vale.
- Manchester City vs. Liverpool, West Ham United vs. Leeds United.
- The matches will be played on April 4th and 5th.
