Mogadishu: Somali-UN talks on visas and residency permits for UN staff
The Director General of Somalia’s Immigration and Citizenship Authority, Mustafa Tahlow, met with the UN Special Representative for Somalia and Head of the UN Mission in Somalia (UNSOM), James Swan, and his accompanying delegation at the Authority’s headquarters in Mogadishu.During the meeting, they discussed the latest developments in the Authority’s services, including border security management, the modernization of e-services such as the electronic visa system, residency procedures, and passport issuance services.
The Director General emphasized that these measures are part of ongoing efforts to improve services, enhance efficiency, and align with modern standards in the field of immigration and passports.
For his part, the UN Special Representative expressed his appreciation for the Authority’s efforts, commending the improvements made to immigration and residency systems, and affirming the close cooperation between the Authority and the United Nations.
The two sides also discussed issues related to the residency status of UN staff working in Somalia, including providing a safe and effective environment for them to carry out their work, ensuring their rights and safety.
This meeting reflects the commitment of Somalia and the United Nations to strengthening their partnership in migration management and border security, and to facilitating residency and visa procedures for international staff in order to support the country's development and stability goals.
