OpenAI acquires cybersecurity startup
US-based artificial intelligence applications company OpenAI announced Monday evening its acquisition of cybersecurity startup Prompt Vu, without disclosing the financial details of the deal. The Prompt Vu team, which develops tools designed to test and protect complex AI systems, will join OpenAI. Prompt Vu's technology will also be integrated into OpenAI's Frontier platform, which focuses on AI agents.PromptVu's tools are widely used by developers to test instructions, evaluate the behavior of AI agents, and compare the performance of major large language models, including those from Anthropic and Google. Prompt Vu CEO Ian Webster said the acquisition will accelerate efforts to improve the security and governance of AI systems as agents become increasingly intertwined with real-world data and applications.
OpenAI plans to continue supporting Prompt Vu’s open-source tools, which enable developers to evaluate how models respond to various scenarios and conditions. This acquisition comes amid fierce competition in the AI sector, with companies like Meta investing heavily in AI infrastructure and specialized talent. Prompt Vu raised $18.4 million in a Series A funding round in 2025, valuing the company at approximately $85.5 million.
