The Ministry of Trade and Industry seeks to increase local production to enhance self-sufficiency.
The Minister of Trade and Industry in the Somali Federal Government, Mr. Jamal Mohamed Hassan, stated that the ministry is developing a policy aimed at guiding and increasing domestic production in the country to enhance self-sufficiency.The minister noted that the country imports many goods that could be produced locally, and to address this, the Ministry of Trade is focusing on increasing industrial production, which will also contribute to creating numerous job opportunities. Minister Jamal said, “Exported livestock can be processed into meat. When the animal is slaughtered, its hide can be utilized, and the bones can be used in various industries. This will create employment opportunities.”
The minister added that Somalia has great opportunities to help it develop its local production, especially with the presence of the East African Common Market (EAC), which the country recently joined, in addition to other global markets that are witnessing increasing demand.
