Courtois aims to participate in the Champions League semi-finals.
Real Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois is aiming to return from injury in time for the Champions League semi-finals, should his team overcome their first-leg quarter-final defeat to Bayern Munich. The 33-year-old has been sidelined since suffering a thigh injury against Manchester City on March 17, which was initially expected to keep him out for at least six weeks.According to The Athletic, the Belgian international is working to be ready to participate in the Champions League semi-final at the end of April, six weeks after Courtois suffered the injury, should Real Madrid qualify for that stage of the tournament.
Real Madrid must overturn a 2-1 first-leg deficit against Bayern Munich if they are to reach the Champions League semi-final against either Paris Saint-Germain or Liverpool on April 28. Real Madrid travel to the Allianz Arena for the second leg on Wednesday, while Liverpool host PSG at Anfield on Tuesday, with the French champions holding a 2-0 aggregate lead.
Courtois has missed Real Madrid's last four matches in all competitions, with Andriy Lunin deputizing in his absence. His return in time for the Champions League semi-final means Courtois will be available for El Clásico against Barcelona at the Camp Nou on May 10.
Real Madrid trail Barcelona by seven points in the La Liga title race with eight games remaining for the Catalan side. Courtois has made 41 appearances in all competitions this season, keeping 16 clean sheets.
