President of the Republic: The Southwest State will be the first region to implement the “one person, one vote” system.

 His Excellency the President of the Republic, Mr. Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, affirmed that the Southwest State will be the first region in the country to implement the "one person, one vote" system in elections. This announcement was made during an event organized by the Ministry of Family and Human Rights, attended by a number of officials, including the State's Interim Governor, Mr. Jibril Abdirashid Haji.

The event aimed to highlight the pivotal role of women in strengthening the democratic process and building a modern state based on the will of the Somali people. Women from the Southwest State expressed their support for the implementation of this electoral system.

In his address, the President outlined the government's plan for implementing direct elections, emphasizing the state's commitment to guaranteeing citizens' constitutional right to choose their representatives through free and fair elections.

His Excellency called upon the people of Southwest State to strengthen the spirit of unity and mutual respect, and to support the efforts of democratic transition. He stressed the importance of moving beyond past differences and not holding officials of the previous administration responsible, in order to build a unified and stable future for the region and the nation.
