The Minister of Women and Human Rights receives a delegation from the United Nations
The Minister of Family and Human Rights Development in the Federal Government, Ms. Khadija Mohamed Al-Makhzoumi, received today in Mogadishu the Deputy Regional Director of the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) and Head of the OHCHR Office for East Africa, Ms. Mimoshka Lauriston, and her accompanying delegation. The meeting focused on strengthening cooperation between Somalia and the OHCHR, implementing Human Rights Council resolution A/HRC/RES/60/28, particularly the preparation of a two-year action plan (2026–2027), and expediting the establishment of an official OHCHR office in the country.
This meeting comes within the framework of the efforts made by the Ministry of Family and Human Rights Development to promote human rights in the country, as the Ministry has achieved great accomplishments in this field during the past year, most notably restoring independence in the human rights file after 32 years, in line with the countries of the world, in addition to the success in establishing the Independent National Human Rights Commission, for the first time in the history of Somalia.
Today, I received Ms. Maymuchka Lauriston, Deputy Regional Representative of the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights and Head of its East Africa Office, and her delegation for a productive discussion on strengthening Somalia–OHCHR cooperation.
