The Minister of Women opens a workshop on strengthening Somali women's leadership.

The Minister of Family and Human Rights Development in the Federal Government of Somalia, Ms. Khadija Mohamed Al-Makhzoumi, inaugurated a two-day workshop in Mogadishu today, focusing on strengthening Somali women's leadership. The workshop was organized by the Somali Equality Association (SOMGEM).

The event brings together women leaders, women's organizations, and representatives from civil society. Participants will exchange views and discuss ways to enhance and increase women's leadership roles, given the vital role women play in our society.

During her opening remarks at the workshop, Minister Khadija Mohamed Al-Makhzoumi reviewed the Ministry's efforts to support women's leadership, highlighting key achievements such as: enshrining a 30% quota for women for the first time in the electoral law and the political parties law; and enacting the laws against gender-based violence, female genital mutilation, and female family law, all of which were approved by the Cabinet. These laws grant women greater rights.

In closing, the Minister of Family and Human Rights Development called on participants to develop practical recommendations that would contribute to strengthening the Somali government's efforts to develop and promote women's leadership.
