Somalia participates for the first time in the Geneva Human Rights Conference

The annual conference of national human rights institutions, organized by the Global Alliance of National Human Rights Institutions (GANHRI), concluded in Geneva after three days of discussions, with Somalia participating for the first time.

The Somali delegation was headed by the Chairperson of the National Independent Human Rights Commission, Ms. Mariam Qasim Ahmed, who delivered a speech outlining the general situation in the country and addressing a range of human rights issues.

The conference focused on the impact of modern technology on human rights, particularly artificial intelligence and digital tools. Ms. Mariam Qasim Ahmed presented an overview of Somalia's significant progress in this area, as well as its efforts to establish the National Human Rights Commission.

On the sidelines of the conference, the Somali delegation held a bilateral meeting with the Ethiopian delegation, headed by the Chairman of the Ethiopian Human Rights Commission, Berhanu Adillo, where the two sides discussed ways to enhance cooperation and develop the partnership between the two institutions.
