Somalia reaffirms its commitment to developing vaccination services during an African meeting in Nairobi

The Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Dr. Ali Haji Adam, affirmed Somalia's commitment to developing immunization services and strengthening the health system during his participation in the launch ceremony of the African Immunization Strategy, organized by the Africa CDC in Nairobi, Kenya.

In his address, the Minister reviewed the Somali government's key achievements in expanding immunization services and improving public health in recent years. He highlighted the establishment of the National Immunization and Polio Eradication Commission, chaired by Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre, a move that reflects the government's seriousness in combating preventable diseases.

He explained that the vaccination coverage rate in the country has reached 76 percent, reflecting the government's prioritization of the health sector, particularly with regard to vaccinating children and the most vulnerable groups. The minister also emphasized the government's efforts to increase domestic funding for the health sector, confirming that immunization programs have been included in the general budget allocations to ensure the sustainability of essential health services.

He commended the ongoing support provided by international partners, especially Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, in securing life-saving vaccines for children in Somalia. The minister reaffirmed the Somali government's commitment to strengthening immunization programs, improving public health, and contributing to African efforts aimed at developing health systems across the continent.
