The Minister of Environment delivers a speech on the effects of climate change in Africa.
Somalia’s Minister of Environment and Climate Change, Mr. Bashir Mohamed Jama, delivered a keynote address during the Sustainable Development Goal 6 (SDG6) session at the ARFSD12 Forum, focusing on the impacts of climate change on access to clean water.The Minister noted that challenges such as climate change, urbanization, and funding shortfalls have significantly impacted water security in Africa, hindering the achievement of sustainable development. He also emphasized the need to strengthen communities’ resilience to these risks.
He also emphasized that access to clean water is directly linked to communities' ability to adapt to climate change, which is essential for life and development in general. In closing, the minister called for enhanced international cooperation and increased investment to achieve Sustainable Development Goal 6, which aims to ensure access to clean, safe, and reliable water for all.
