Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mahmoud stressed this evening, Saturday, that as long as he is in power, his country is serious about “liquidating” terrorists. This came in a speech he gave to a crowd of citizens, during his visit to the city of Mahas in the Hiran region in the state of Hirshabelle (central Somalia), which was “liberated” from the grip of the “Al-Shabaab” movement.

In his speech, the Somali president praised "the successive victories achieved by the army in cooperation with the local population against the terrorists," noting that the government "will support every town whose residents decided to liberate themselves from the grip of the terrorists."

He said: As long as I am in power, Somalia is serious about liquidating terrorists from the entire soil of the country. The regions of Eil Bor, Haratiri, and Adam Yabali in the center and south of the country will be liberated, God willing.. The Somali president indicated that the government “will work to provide all government services to the city of Mahas and the villages surrounding it and all the liberated areas.”

The “Al-Shabab” fighters were controlling parts of the city of Mahas and the surrounding villages, but the Somali army, in cooperation with the local population, recaptured the city and the surrounding villages from the movement’s grip in early September.
