On Sunday, Norway provided a new financial grant of 30 million dollars to Somalia, during a visit by a Norwegian official to Mogadishu. Norway announced that it is contributing this amount to the Somali Multi-Partner Fund managed by the World Bank, after a meeting between the Somali Federal Minister of Finance and the Norwegian Minister of International Development in Mogadishu.
Dr. Elmi Mahmoud Nur, the Somali Federal Minister of Finance, said that the money will be used to promote financial reform and project financing. “It was a great pleasure to welcome the Norwegian Minister for International Development, Anne Bethe, to Somalia today,” he added.
Regarding the Norwegian financial contribution, Nour said that these funds will be used to promote financial reform and finance projects. Nour stressed that Norway is a strong supporter and contributor to the economic reforms of the State of Somalia, noting that the new financial grant will help our country more.
Norway is one of 9 Western countries that provide funding to the Somali Multi-Partner Fund, which was established in 2013, as Somalia seeks to rebuild its basic institutions. The fund is the main source of financing for the World Bank in Somalia since the country's return to the supervision of international financial institutions to promote international reform efforts in accordance with financial integrity standards.
The Prime Minister of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Hamza Abdi Barre, met today, Sunday, in his office in Mogadishu, with the Minister of International Development of the Norwegian government, Anne Bayati Tefenarim.
A statement from the media office of the Somali Prime Minister stated that the meeting discussed bilateral relations between the two governments and Norwegian support for Somalia in achieving economic development, self-sufficiency in food, and improving security and stability.
For her part, the Norwegian Minister of International Development expressed her thanks to the Somali Prime Minister for the good reception, and pledged to continue her country's support to the Somali government.
