President Hassan Sheikh returns to Dosmarib.
On Friday, the President of the Republic, Hassan Sheikh Mahmoud, returned to the city of Dosmarib, the capital of Galmudug State in central Somalia, coming from the city of Baidoa, the temporary capital of South West State.
The president had taken Dosmarib as his temporary headquarters two months ago to personally supervise the ongoing military operations in Galmudug state with the aim of clearing it of the presence of Al-Shabaab fighters.
In recent days, the President visited the Eritrean capital, Asmara, to return trained Somali forces there. He also spent days in Mogadishu, and also visited the cities of Baidoa and Hadar in South West State before returning to Dosmarib.
A statement issued by the Somali Presidency indicated that the goal of the President’s visit to South West State was to prepare for the second phase of military operations against Al-Shabaab, which is expected to begin in both South West and Jubbaland State. The statement added that the President returned to “Dusmarib” to complete the first phase of the operation. Liberating the country from Al-Shabaab militants.
