The President of the Republic, Hassan Sheikh Mahmoud, welcomed Somali forces returning from Eritrea after training that lasted five years. Noting that the troops had returned home to intensify efforts to eliminate terrorists, the President said: “Their courage fills me with faith, like every other Somali, that the liberation of our homeland for lasting peace is imminent.”

In a speech to the soldiers, the President expressed his appreciation for their commitment and endurance of hardships, and promised to grant them a short leave of one month to reunite with their friends and families.

The Somali government pledged to provide rewards to them in appreciation of the efforts they made, and explained that this demonstrates its commitment to the well-being of its forces and its vital role in preserving national interests.
