The Puntland government accuses the opposition of not being prepared to negotiate

The head of the committee appointed by Puntland President Said Abdullahi Deni to negotiate with the opposition accused opposition politicians of hesitation to enter into talks to resolve the electoral dispute.

Abdi Said Farah “Juha”, who also serves as Minister of Interior in Puntland State, stressed on Monday that the opposition does not appear ready to negotiate even though the next elections are only a few weeks away.

The minister said, “We have contacted them and made contacts, but they are refraining from negotiating with us.” He noted that there is still an opportunity for dialogue, and urged the opposition to come to the negotiating table to address the electoral dispute.

The minister's statement comes in response to the opposition's claim that they are waiting for the mediation of the tribal sultans descending from the Khatima administration, who are actively working to resolve the dispute over the electoral issue in Puntland.
