The Somali Parliament begins discussions to amend the constitution

On Monday, the People's Assembly of the Somali Federal Parliament began discussing the amendment to the federal constitution, which had been provisional for a long time in order to complete it as soon as possible. Some parliamentarians suggested working extra hours, including night meetings, in order to have a good space for discussion.

In his speech at the session, the Speaker of the Council, Sheikh Adam Mohamed Nur “Madubi,” said that today is a historic day as the representatives begin reviewing and discussing the constitution after more than 12 years of its incompleteness, and he urged the representatives to maintain attendance to speed up the discussion before the blessed month of Ramadan. .

The Somali federal government insists on completing the amendment to the constitution this season despite the objections of opposition politicians who argue that amending the constitution requires broad consultations with all Somali stakeholders.
